Engineer
Goals and duties
of this position include:
-
Functioning in a supporting role for developing
solutions for modernization and design of new hydropower projects.
-
Assisting with condition assessments, studies,
designs, calculations, cost estimates and specification development for
existing facilities and proposed projects.
-
Participating in marketing, proposal and
business development activities and interfacing with clients.
-
Conducting independent research and data review
including operating records, original construction drawings, inspection
reports, etc. Preparing layouts to support project screening and feasibility
evaluations of project facilities or civil works features.
-
Assisting with reviews of shop and fabrication
drawings, construction oversight and field engineering activities to ensure
work products and design solutions conform to owner’s goals, engineering
design criteria, contract requirements and specifications.
-
Assisting with support of facility operation,
maintenance, and repair activities to obtain optimum utilization of labor,
equipment and resources.
-
Assisting with evaluation, testing and trouble
shooting of field installations and project features resulting in design
modifications and other improvements to eliminate deficiencies or problems.
Minimum qualifications include:
-
Graduation with a BS in
Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university
-
Minumum of one year of
related post-university work experience
-
Registration as an
engineer-in-training (EIT) in Washington State, or the ability to become
registered as an EIT within one year of hire

CAD capability and varied computer application
experience

Field work and intermittent overnight travel
will be required at times
Responsibilities of this
position may include:
-
Preparation of project evaluation and feasibility studies, engineering
reports, design documents, letters, calculations, drawings, construction
specifications and bid packages
-
Review
and evaluation of hydrologic records, hydraulic flow data, and related
information
-
Preparation of construction cost estimates and power generation models
-
Field
work including construction oversight, site inspections & preparation of
inspection reports
-
Analysis
and basic design of steel, timber & concrete structures as elements of
pipelines, water diversion or intake structures, powerhouses, bridges, etc.
-
Field work and short term, overnight travel to Client
facilities and projects located primarily in the western U.S.
Minimum requirements are:
-
B.S. in
Civil Engineering from an accredited 4 year institution
-
EIT
certification
-
Professional
registration as a Civil P.E. preferred
-
5 years
prior work experience in the civil engineering field
-
Expertise
with MS Office software incl. Word and Excel
-
Competency
with MicroStation or AutoCAD software is desired
-
Strong math
and written and verbal communication skills
-
Self starter
with ability to work independently
-
Organizational skills to handle multiple assignments successfully
-
Previous
consulting civil engineering work experience is desirable, including practical
experience in some or all of the following areas: hydrology and hydraulic
analysis and design, involvement in hydropower and/or water resources
projects, structural steel and reinforced concrete analysis and design,
geotechnical analysis and design and construction management.
Major responsibilities and duties of this position
include:
-
Functioning in a supporting role for developing
hydromechanical project solutions for both modernization and new power
projects. Applications and equipment involve rotating machinery (i.e.
turbines & generators) and balance of plant equipment (valves, gates,
operators, pumps, HVAC, hydraulic systems, etc.)
-
Assisting with existing facility and equipment condition
assessments, studies, designs, calculations, cost estimates and specification
development
-
Participating in marketing, proposal and business
development activities and interfacing with clients
-
Conducting independent research and data review
including operating records, inspection reports, plant history, etc.
-
Preparing layouts to support feasibility evaluations of
design or application
-
Assisting with configuring, assembling and operating
testing devices and equipment, and development of methods and procedures for
testing machines or systems
-
Assisting with reviewing fabrication drawings, completed
fabrications and installation/field erection activities to ensure products and
systems conform to owner’s goals, engineering design criteria and
specifications
-
Assisting with support of operation, maintenance, and
repair activities to obtain optimum utilization of labor, equipment and
resources
-
Assisting with evaluation and trouble shooting of field
installations and equipment resulting in design modifications and other
improvements to eliminate machine deficiencies or system malfunctions
Minimum qualifications for this position:

BS in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited
institution

10 years of post university work experience and
professional registration as a mechanical engineer in WA State, or the ability
to become registered within one year of hire. Desirable characteristics also

instrumentation and control systems for power production facilities

Protective relaying associated
with generation stations

Analyses and modeling of
auxiliary power systems (i.e., short circuit and load flow calculations)

Design and installation of
electrical system component upgrades for new or existing generating stations
or industrial facilities

5 years work experience in an
engineering consulting firm
Minimum qualifications:

BS in Electrical Engineering
from an accredited university

Professional registration as
EIT or PE in any US State or Canada

Strong written and verbal
communication skills

Proficiency with
PC applications including MS Office Suite

Demonstrated ability to
execute work with minimal supervision and direction

Ability to manage multiple
projects and assignments successfully
